“I laugh, not because I am happy. I am happy because I laugh”
―Philosopher and Psychologist, William James (1842-1910)

Words to live

In a lifetime, a lot of things happen, and you sometimes feel fulfilled and happy while you feel down at other times. In particular, if your emotions are being affected by changes in your surroundings, you may feel tired and unmotivated.

If you could control your emotions freely by yourself without external influences, you might be able to lead your life feeling secured. Still, is it possible?

There is a way of thinking called “Pragmatism”. It is to look at the essence of things through actions and results. This was proposed to eliminate conflicts among people in the United States where dissimilar beliefs and cultures mixedly existed.

William James who advanced Pragmatism left a quote, “I laugh, not because I am happy. I am happy because I laugh.”

The action of laughing brings about the result of feeling happy and joyful. Even if you are carrying a burden of distress and suffering, your mood might gradually begin to catch up as long as your actions are cheerful.

That said, there is no need to be always force yourself to be in a fun mood. Just keep this message in the back of your mind as a magic spell for when you want to change your mood a little.
